Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, unique skills and qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for adapting highly technical papers, briefs and other materials into various products for public audiences. The role requires review and synthesis of complex technical and scientific materials to clearly present summary information in an easily understandable way for expert and non-specialist audiences.

Job Responsibilities:

Reviews and analyzes technical products, briefs and other materials describing IDA research to produce concisely written monthly summaries that are understandable to informed lay persons and subject matter experts, including senior government officials.

Conducts independent research and confers with pertinent research staff members to assist and ensure that technically complex information and content will be effectively interpreted.

Collaborates with researchers, graphic artists, web designers and others to produce graphics, illustrations, and web content to present information in an easy-to-understand, visually appealing product that attracts readership.

Oversees coordination of product workflow and approval through authors, editors, researchers and management.

Creates descriptions of research capabilities appropriate for external audiences to increase awareness of IDA’s vision, mission, goals and capabilities.

Reviews abstracts and other data to compose monthly lists of completed research products for external audiences, including federal government sponsors of research.

Collaborates with the Vice President, Research, and others in corporate executive offices to understand expectations and needs for CC products related to research.

Ensures consistent tone, logical organization, appropriate formatting, proper grammar and corporate style across communications products.

Helps develop, produce and disseminate other communication products, including newsletters, staff notices, news releases, policies and practices, announcements, transcripts and web content.

Reviews communications products for accuracy, style and relevancy to company goals.

Researches and recommends guidelines in Corporate Communications’ style guide. Collaborates with others to educate other team members and maintain consistency of style in our products.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, technical writing, technical editing or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a technical writer in a product or service industry with experience in content analysis.

Experience with writing and editing environment for complex technical topics in a research organization.

Ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.

Ability to synthesize information across a wide span of disciplines.

Keen attention to detail, word choice, vocabulary and grammar.

Familiarity the Associated Press Stylebook.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel), including creating and using templates.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Acrobat, InDesign and Illustrator.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.

Familiarity with federally funded research and development centers is a plus.

Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

U.S. citizenship.

Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
