The Department of English at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Medieval or Early Modern literature and culture. We welcome applications from scholars working across the entire range of the medieval and early modern periods, from Old and Middle English to the late seventeenth century, and from a variety of methodologies, including work that embraces cross-cultural or global perspectives as well as trans- and circum-Atlantic writing.The appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of pre-1750 literature and culture that reflect their expertise; applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring and the ability to maintain an active research program.Application Materials:

The successful candidate must have a PhD in English or a related field at the time of appointment; applicants should be no more than three years beyond a post-doctoral appointment.All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.Immunization Requirements: Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
