POSITION OVERVIEW
Outfitting Designer III will lead the development of outfitting design and drawings of new ship and marine vehicle designs, as wells as modifications to existing designs.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Outfitting Designer III is responsible for:Check the work of junior outfitting designers.Develop 3D foundation, equipment, joinery, stair, ladder, handrail and platform models, associated 2D Production drawings, and associated CAM information for existing and new products.Ensure the quality of outfit design models and drawings.Incorporate build strategy and design for production into outfitting design.Create details to assist manufacturing installation and assembly.Integration of outfitting design with structure, mechanical, and electrical.Write Request for Information for functional engineering missing information.Ability to select vendor hardware/parts that are compatible with systems and customer requirements.Organize and maintain drawing file configurations and storage.Process engineering change notices and engineering related corrective actions.Conduct model and drawing reviews with engineer, production, and production control personnel.Revise models and drawings to refine products based on input from engineering and production personnel.Create product illustrated parts for Shipconstructor Database equipment entry.Assist field engineers in the resolution of production information requests.Other duties assigned by the Production Design Manager.QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
Associate of Applied Science or equivalent.Minimum 10 years mechanical, structural, or outfitting design experience.5 years ShipConstructor software experience, or 3 years ShipConstructor experience and 2 years with equivalent software.10 years of AutoCAD software.Demonstrated proficiency in developing 3D outfit models and production drawings.Familiarity with converting files from multiple CAD formats.Working knowledge of joiner systems, stair design, ladder design, handrail design, and platforms, and foundations.Good technical writing and professional communication skills.Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).Ability to work under limited supervision.Excellent organizational skills.Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines.Steel or aluminum shipbuilding, boat building, offshore, or other marine design or fabrication experience.Fabrication or field engineering experience.Strong knowledge of outfitting standards and design for human system integration, such as experience designing to ASTM 1166.Knowledge of multiple CAD programs and converting STP, IGES files to Autocad files.Knowledge of manholes, tank covers, doors, deck fittingsKnowledge of ABS, US Navy and USCG design requirements.Familiarity with modular construction methods.HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND QUALITY (HSEQ) OBLIGATIONS
Ensure task risk assessments are conducted to carry out all work safely.Commitment to a focus on safety and a culture of hazard identification and control.Compliance with company policies and procedures to protect themselves, work colleagues and the environment.Report all incidents, hazards and near misses, including environmental cases.Follow all quality control and assurance systems in place.Take part in annual performance appraisals.Participate and follow any fitness for work or recover at work plans implemented for the individual.WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a Manufacturing environment where exposure to dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 50 pounds.While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.Position requires use of computer, telephones, and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.Position occasionally requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment and boats from the beginning of production through the sea trails.
