Works with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy for a highly visible program.The Communications Director contributes to Department and independently oversees a comprehensive marketing and communications program for the Department of Family Community Medicine (FCM), which includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. The role will partner with FCM leadership, faculty, staff, trainees and other key stakeholders to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy in alignment with overarching brand and communications strategies of the UCSF enterprise and, where appropriate, UCSF Health. The Communications Director is responsible for leading, developing and managing all aspects of internal/external marketing and communications, including overseeing multi-channel content including: websites, newsletters, annual reports, social media, fundraising, etc.This position requires extensive experience in all aspects of marketing/communications, including strong writing and editing skills, experience managing social media platforms and familiarity with publishing in peer-reviewed medical journals. The individual must have a high degree of organization, initiative, ability to interact with many diverse personalities and function effectively under the stress of competing priorities. Communications Director serves in an autonomous capacity as the primary point of contact on behalf of the department to the UCSF community, donors, alumni, national and international organizations and the public at-large. The individual in this position must demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and requires a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.The salary range for this position is $113,700 - $170,500 (Annual Rate).Department Description The Department of Family & Community Medicine (DFCM) is engaged in research, teaching, training, service and clinical activities located at seven primary UCSF and leased sites in San Francisco (Parnassus, ZSFG - Buildings 80, 90, 20 and the Main Hospital, Mission Center Building, Laurel Heights, Mission Hall, Lakeshore, Lakeside) as well as the OSHER center, Women's Health and the UCSF Primary Care Practices at China Basin and Laurel Village and at various local community, national and international research/service/education training and clinical sites. In addition to the Department's Family Medicine Residency Program located at ZSFG, the Department has affiliated residency programs in Fresno, Salinas, Santa Rosa, Kaiser Vallejo, Santa Rosa, and Contra Costa Health Systems. Authority and accountability for the Department reside with the Department Chair who delegates authority to Vice Chairs, the Executive Council, Directors and Chiefs of Service and their Administrators and the Department Associate Chair of Administration and Finance.The Mission of the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine is to improve health through excellence and innovation in patient care, education, research, advocacy, and community empowerment. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.Preferred Qualifications
