The Center maintains a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment that brings together expertise from the UCSF Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Microbiology & Immunology and others.
In addition, The Immune Tolerance Network (ITN) is a National Institutes of Health-funded research network created to facilitate the advancement of immune tolerance-inducing initiatives in human clinical practice, towards the development of new and improved treatment and monitoring protocols in its areas of disease focus. With over $30 million dollars in funding per year, the ITN is responsible for the selection, design and key aspects of the implementation of mechanistic, laboratory-based studies and clinical trials examining many of the most advanced experimental drugs and biologics in development today. All aspects of the ITN mission are carried out in collaboration with academic investigators responsible for bringing trial concepts to the ITN, and with medical, regulatory and operational staff at the ITN's sponsor and primary funding agency, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health.
The purpose of this position is to provide excellent and independent scientific writing to support the growing needs of the Center in submitting collaborative and center grants.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Minimum 3+ years of related experienceThorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and / or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and / or health sciences.Thorough interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills.Thorough attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.Skill to maintain confidentiality.Significant training/experience in the field of diabetes and obesity researchThorough understanding of NIH grants submission and review processPreferred QualificationsPhD in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and / or web production.About UCSFThe University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
