Job SummaryThe executive director leads the team that supports the marketing and communications needs of the Finance & Administration division. The executive director creates a unified vision for marketing and communications that delivers cohesive messaging and storytelling, enhances the brand, and furthers the goals of the division and university. This role will create and execute comprehensive marketing and communications strategies and manage the planning, designing, and tracking tactics to meet various audiences' customer needs and business goals.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership
Provide strategic direction, implementation, and oversight of the division's marketing and communications program; overseeing staff, external consultants and vendors tasked with implementing marketing programs, communicating to multiple audiences, and elevating the RIT brand. Provide guidance and mentoring for marketing and communications personnel in the division and within the team.
Strategy Development and Implementation
Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the division's goals and university contributions.
Provide strategic guidance to F&A leaders on matters related to brand positioning, messaging, and creative direction. Oversee the creation of compelling and engaging content for various platforms, including websites, social media, and publications.
Collaboration
Identify, initiate, and cultivate effective working partnerships and collaborations across the university to ensure alignment of F&A marketing and communications efforts to university, division and department goals. Identify approaches to effectively balance support for department-level and division-level needs. Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing and creativity within the team.
Serve on committees to support institutional priorities and progress.
Service Delivery
Set and oversee F&A's approach for delivering marketing and communications services to internal departments, ensuring departments receive both strategic and tactical support for various marketing and communications needs.
Identify opportunities to streamline F&A's work with division stakeholders.
Brand Management
Oversee the adherence of the university's brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across all communication channels. Provide brand consultation to F&A departments to support the efficacy of their marketing efforts and promote alignment with the RIT brand.
Digital and Traditional Marketing
Drive divisional marketing initiatives to enhance presence and engagement.
Use data analytics to measure the effectiveness of digital and traditional marketing campaigns and work with divisional leaders to adjust strategies accordingly.
KPI Tracking
Identify key marketing and communications priorities for F&A departments in alignment with divisional and departmental needs.
Oversee establishment of and monitor short- and long-term objectives and key performance indicators to assess initiatives and operations and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Market Listening
Maintain awareness and understanding of local, regional, and national developments both within and outside the higher education industry.
Research and introduce innovative solutions for operational improvement in areas such as communications, technology, and related fields to proactively identify potential disruptions, their impact on RIT, and implications for F&A's marketing and communications.
Budgeting
Develops budgets to support division and department objectives and plans.
Manage department and project budgets and initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience BS in Marketing, Advertising, Business Management, Communication or related field
8-10 years direct professional experience in marketing, communications and/or related field
Experience with analyzing and interpreting data, synthesizing trends, and discovering insights and recommendations
Experience with multi-faceted campaigns for various audiences
Experience with product or service marketing and/or branding
Experience with budget management
Proficient project management skills, with the ability to skillfully organize projects, and effectively manage multiple initiatives concurrently and meet deadlines.
Skills:
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language, including spelling, grammar, and storytelling capabilities
Strong quality standards of communication efforts, including visual and written storytelling
Ability to provide clear directions, cultivate relationships, collaborate, and influence constituents and stakeholders
Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills
Must have a proven ability to work with a variety of constituents and stakeholders to achieve goals
Must have demonstrable problem-solving skills
Willingness and ability to learn and understand the various departments in the Finance & Administration division
Strong presentation skills and ability to present to large groups

Master's degree or MBA
3+ years people management experience
Experience in higher education setting
Proficient with project management software
