BSE is developing a modern media company that champions the spirit and attitude of Brooklyn and amplifies it to the world. Rooted in digital storytelling across all channels and formats, we will cultivate a highly engaged global audience by reaffirming the connective threads that tie sports, music, fashion and sneakers, and food not just to Brooklyn geographically, but in how they're embedded into its DNA. We are assembling a team of agile, culturally fluent, entrepreneurial-minded talent who will craft the vision strategy and tactics to bring this initiative to life. We believe that our team should mirror the diversity of the Brooklyn communities that have crafted culture so we can build content that authentically reflects and resonates beyond the borough's borders.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Identify, write, and publish 1-2 daily news posts for BKMAGLead all aspects of conception, editing, and publishing of list and feature content for BKMAGWrite, build, and send email newsletters for BKMAGWork with Managing Editor to develop coverage strategies around moments in BrooklynWork closely with the BKMAG Social Editor around story rollouts and coverage strategies across the brand's social channelsMaintain editorial calendars for BKMAG and new siteSupport content creation on new site, as neededCoordinate payments for freelancers from both sitesWrite and edit branded site content as neededMonitor CMS healthWHAT YOU WILL BRING:
4+ years of professional journalism experience2+ years of experience leading a site or channel's operations1+ years of writing, building, and sending weekly newslettersMust have extensive knowledge of current events, pop culture, music, and sportsBachelor's degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experienceWHO YOU ARE:
Sharp news judgment and the ability to identify the right angles for impactful featuresAbility to write strong, engaging headlines for news stories and featuresTrack record of developing engaging, authoritative feature and list contentStrong knowledge of standard processes for SEO, experience with Content Management Systems (CMS), and the ability to effectively present stories on social and social video platformsTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to travel on occasions; trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.
SALARY RANGE:
$75,000-$100,000

Works primarily in an office environment but upon request will be encouraged to attend games and other events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
