Job Description:

The School of Art in the College of Art and Design at Louisiana State University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design to commence August 15, 2025. We are seeking an accomplished professional with specialization in UI/UX design, interaction design and other emerging technologies.

The School of Art seeks candidates who possess expertise in at least two of the following areas: UI/UX design, emerging media design, interactive design, generative media, creative computation, motion design, coded typography, digital storytelling and data visualization. We seek a candidate whose scholarship and teaching are at the intersection of creative technologies and graphic design. This role requires the capacity to integrate innovative technological tools and methods into the curriculum, enhancing the learning experience and preparing students for the dynamic landscape of contemporary graphic design. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of both traditional design principles and emerging digital platforms, fostering an environment that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise. We seek a colleague who will initiate collaboration, experimentation, and innovation across departments.

Candidates are expected to teach and engage in scholarly research and service to the School, College, and University. Teaching assignments are a 3:2 course load, and include studios and seminars at the undergraduate and graduate level for students in BA, BFA and MFA programs. Additional responsibilities include student advising, mentoring for the graphic design program and involvement in the Graphic Design Student Office (GDSO), our renowned faculty-led graphic design studio.

Required Qualifications:
  • A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in Graphic Design, Art and Technology, Digital Arts, Interaction/Experience Design or related field by August 15, 2025.
  • Demonstrated experience with practicing, teaching, or researching in two or more of the following areas: UI/UX design, emerging media design, interactive design, generative media, creative computation, motion design, coded typography, digital storytelling and data visualization.
  • Min. 1 year of teaching experience at the university level, which may include experience as an instructor of record.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • An established record of creative practice in graphic design, experience design, interactive design or related field.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of traditional design principles related to typography, publication design, identity design, and design research.
  • Experience and future aspirations for grant writing/scholarly research awards.
  • Ability to demonstrate, through their teaching philosophy or record, an ability to mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students to foster collaboration, experimentation, and innovation across departments.
  • Evidence of collaboration skills, multidisciplinary activities and maintaining professional relationships outside of the university.
