The Office of the Medical Examiner is a county agency charged under Arizona Law to perform medical investigations of certain types of deaths. The goal of these investigations is to determine the medical cause (disease and/or injury) of the death to help improve the public's health and safety. Our investigations inform families, the public and its agencies, and other community stakeholders in the hope that future deaths may be prevented. We RequireTwo years of commercial, industrial, or law enforcement photographic experience;
OR
Two years of experience as a Forensic Technician, Medicolegal Death Investigator, or similar role that includes experience taking postmortem photographs
High school diploma or GED
Post-secondary education in Forensic Science, Criminal Investigations, or a related field may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
We Also ValueCompletion of a training program in Forensic Photography
Forensic Photography college-level coursework
Experience working or volunteering in a Medical Examiner or Coroner's office
Job ContributionsUse photographic protocols specific to the type of case, take photographs to document measurements and locations of injuries, wounds, and medical anomalies during postmortem examinations
Document and record photographs taken and case information into appropriate network system
Process and transfer digital photographs taken by Forensic Technicians and Medicolegal Death Investigators to appropriate network case files
Maintain inventories and records from law enforcement and outside agencies
Train Forensic Technicians and Medicolegal Death Investigators to take digital photographs using forensic digital photographic protocols
Maintain and repair all photographic equipment as required; ensure the department is current with existing technology of digital imaging and protocols
Working ConditionsRequires working with decedents, sometimes in a decomposed state
Requires working in malodorous conditions
Requires long periods of time standing, leaning over tall ladders, and bending at awkward angles several times in a shift
Requires the ability to work with confidential information and/or graphic material
