Senior Editor, Skimm Money (Contract)

theSkimm Were hiring a temporary Senior Editor for our Money vertical on our Editorial team. About our team and what well build together theSkimm is looking for an experienced Senior Editor to oversee operations, strategy, and content creation for its Money newsletter and vertical for five months. This is a managerial position and candidates must be comfortable overseeing a team and a rigorous publishing process. Our editorial team is a collaborative group of journalists from a variety of media backgrounds. We understand how to create high-quality journalism in theSkimms distinct voice. In this role, youll lead a small team that includes one writer and one editor to produce one weekly newsletter as well as any ancillary content needed for web, growth, or ongoing projects. This is a short-term, contract position to cover an employees parental leave from Mid-December through Mid-May, 2025 . How youll contribute to our mission In this role, you will be: Leading the production of theSkimms Money newsletter, which includes brainstorming, researching, writing, editing, fact-checking, and publishing Implementing and refining the newsletter's ongoing strategy Managing two team members Presenting data to the editorial team on a weekly and monthly basis Collaborating with other content teams to share learnings and resources Assisting with other editorial products such as web articles and campaigns Working on special projects and/or long-form content Youre ready for this Heres a bit more about what were looking for A minimum of 5-6 years of editorial experience, ideally including money and career content Leadership experience 4 years of digital experience Strong editorial judgment and robust experience with fact-checking and reporting best practices Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments Track record of working effectively under pressure to hit deadlines Experience publishing through a CMS Excitement about theSkimm and its mission The ability to manage and lead other team members and navigate a variety of conversations A few things that will set you apart: Management experience Experience in content development and strategy Experience filling in for a senior editor on parental leave Experience using insights to inform content development for audience growth The expected rate for this role is $8k9k each month, for five months. Well consider a variety of factors when determining the offered base salary including an evaluation of a candidates skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity. This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. Our office is available to use four days a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that full-time employees within the New York Metro area come together in person two days a week. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open.
