In addition to managing the care of over 4,000 patients with rheumatic conditions, teams of basic and clinical investigators at OMRF conduct extensive clinical, translational, and mechanistic research using samples from these large clinical programs. We are also fortunate to hold multiple collaborative grants, including the UM1 NIAID-funded Autoimmunity Center of Excellence, two U01 Autoimmunity Prevention Centers, the NIGMS-funded S06 Native American Research Center of Health focused on rheumatic disease, the NIAMS-funded P30 Oklahoma Rheumatic Disease Research Cores Center, and the NIGMS-funded U54 Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources. The James Lab and Guthridge Lab are translational immunology laboratories focused on understanding the pathogenesis, prediction, prevention, and precision treatment of immune-mediated diseases to improve patients' lives. Leveraging extensive experimental datasets alongside detailed clinical data, our research aims to uncover deeper insights into disease mechanisms and optimize treatments. We also lead large, NIH-funded national consortia, including the Autoimmune Centers of Excellence and the Accelerating Medicines Partnership in Autoimmune and Immune-Mediated Disease. We are seeking a talented Scientific/Medical Writer to join our team. This role involves producing and editing clear, engaging, and accurate content for a range of scientific and lay audiences, including manuscripts, grant proposals, reports, summaries, white papers, website content, and presentations. The successful candidate will be responsible for various tasks, including:• Apply scientific principles and biomedical knowledge to understand, organize and convey complex data for diverse audiences (scientific, medical, and lay).• Help write, edit, and proofread key scientific and medical documents.• Assist with cover letters, letters of support, evaluation letters, and other communications (e.g., patient newsletters).• Coordinate feedback from a multi-disciplinary team to meet deadlines.• Track manuscripts from conceptualization through publication stages.• Conduct literature reviews, manage references, and maintain knowledge of relevant research.• Assist with the development, design, and selection of scientific illustrations, tables, and figures.• Update content on lab and departmental websites, including newsworthy announcements.• Maintain commonly used text on facilities, resources, human subjects, and standard procedures.• Assist in writing and editing grant progress reports, grant sections, and collaborative grant documents.• Summarize research results for community stakeholders and lay audiences.• Senior candidates may lead a Scientific Writing Unit and conduct scientific writing workshops, writing groups, and lunch-and-learn sessions for junior investigators and trainees.Minimum Qualifications
• Master s degree in immunology or closely related field, biological science, biochemistry, or other relevant area or scientific medical writing certification, and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience• Deadline oriented, independent, attentive to detail, proactive, communicative and collaborative• Competent in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to interpret a wide range of complex scientific, technical, financial, and legal documentsPreferred Qualifications
• PhD in immunology or closely related field, or a Medical Degree, plus 2 years of experience in writing and editing scientific publications and grant proposals• Publication of at least two peer-reviewed articles on immunology-related topics• Hands-on experience in immunology or clinical rheumatology, bringing additional knowledge relevant to the position• Experience in data analysis or statistics• Skilled in EndNote, GraphPad Prism, Adobe Illustrator, or similar data visualization programs
