We are seeking a Deputy Technical Director to assist in overseeing all technical aspects of ship design, construction, and repair at the company. This role involves managing engineering teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and supporting the delivery of technically sound and cost-effective vessel designs. The Deputy Technical Director will work closely with the production, project management, and quality assurance teams to ensure technical integrity, innovation, and operational excellence in all projects.
*Deputy Technical Director Responsibilities*
* Oversee the development of technical specifications, design plans, and engineering drawings, ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and classification society requirements.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and project management, to ensure technical solutions are practical, cost-effective, and meet project timelines.
* Support the Technical Director in reviewing and approving all technical documentation, including calculations, drawings, and specifications, for accuracy and compliance.
* Assist in resolving technical issues that arise during construction or repair, providing guidance and innovative solutions to engineering and production teams.
* Monitor advancements in shipbuilding technology and industry trends to ensure the company remains competitive and innovative in its technical approaches.
* Support client and regulatory body interactions to address technical inquiries, inspections, and approvals.
* Participate in budgeting, resource planning, and scheduling for technical activities to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
*Deputy Technical Director Position Requirements*
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus 5+ years of experience in working with research and development, acquisition, design, system integration, test and evaluation, logistics, or operational experience with USCG or Navy ships/craft.
* Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering, and working knowledge of ABS NVR, are strongly preferred.
* Requires familiarity with DoD/DHS ship construction programs and an understanding of new construction, ship design, and large marine system integration.
* Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and strong working knowledge in the use of design tools including AutoCAD, and 3D Ship Modelling
* Software (i.e., ShipConstructor, or FORAN).
* Ability to rapidly obtain, sort, filter, and analyze large volumes of data for distillation into high-level reports.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance. Integrity, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking.
