About The Role: As a vital member of the Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) team, the Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing accessibility initiatives and strategically promoting CAP's mission. Collaborating closely with the federal client and the Outreach Team Lead, your mission extends beyond communication to actively contribute to the enhancement of information and communication technology accessibility within the Department of Defense (DoD). In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of developing and executing targeted marketing campaigns that highlight CAP's mission and the benefits of Assistive Technology (AT). Your expertise in assistive tools will not only drive engagement but also significantly contribute to the overall improvement of accessibility within the DoD. Adaptability is key as you navigate evolving customer needs and collaborate across functions to amplify CAP's impact. Effective data analysis will inform strategic decisions, ensuring that communication strategies are optimized to meet our objectives. Engaging in cross-functional collaboration with the team lead, you will work on comprehensive communication, engagement, marketing, and social media strategies that drive awareness and support for CAP's initiatives. Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management. Collaborate with the Outreach Team lead to develop targeted marketing campaigns that increase awareness of CAP’s mission and the benefits of Assistive Technology through multiple channels including inter-agency communications, social media posts, newsletters, press releases, promotional materials and website updates. Leverage strong communication and customer engagement skills to effectively connect with the target audience across various channels, including social media platforms and website engagement initiatives. Develop and execute comprehensive communication, engagement, marketing, and social media strategies. Create engaging written content aligned with CAP's mission for social media posts, newsletters, press releases, promotional materials, and website updates. Manage CAP's social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement monitoring. Support the Outreach Team in fostering relationships with stakeholders and coordinating communication activities. Assist in organizing and promoting CAP events, including webinars, conferences, and industry engagements. Ensure consistency in CAP's brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels. Collaborate with the Outreach Team Lead to analyze branding effectiveness and propose strategies for improvement. Monitor and analyze communication metrics, such as website traffic and social media engagement. Prepare reports to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and provide insights for optimization. Provide written communication plans, news articles, speeches, website and social media content, reports, press, and promotional materials for publication, and on-site support for program objectives. Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including federal clients, team leads, DoD civilians, Service members, supervisors, and military treatment facilities through regular site visits and direct engagement. Utilize expertise in assistive tools to significantly contribute to the overall improvement of information and communication technology accessible with the DoD. Proactively research advancements in communication technologies relevant to the Department of Defense (DoD), regularly evaluating emerging tools and platforms to assess their potential for enhancing communication effectiveness. Demonstrate adaptability in a dynamic position. Conduct effective data analysis. Engage in cross-functional collaboration with the team lead. Eight (8) years of experience working in communications and/or customer engagement is required. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required. Two (2) or more years of experience in communications or outreach working with assistive technologies and accommodations is required. Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility guidelines and requirements is required. Understanding of assistive technologies and accessibility principles is preferred. Experience with the DoD and its stakeholders is preferred. Proficiency in using communication and marketing tools, including social media platforms, content management systems, and analytics tools. Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly proficient using MS Office Suite applications on the DoD network. Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and changing priorities. Effective problem-solving skills, especially in addressing communication challenges and customer concerns. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. Security Clearance: Secret or ability to obtain is required. Must be a resident of US or hold a US citizenship. Work arrangement: on-site at client site in Alexandria or Arlington, VA 3 days per week. Travel requirements: A writing sample will be required upon request. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment and promotional materials for events. Extended periods of standing, sitting, and walking at events, conferences, and demonstrations. What We Offer: Salary $72,000 - $90,000 commensurate experience.
