Job Description The Director of Internal Communications, reporting to the VP of Internal Communications, will play a pivotal role in spearheading the development and execution of comprehensive internal communications strategies for the company, ensuring alignment with our mission, vision and values while fostering a cohesive, motivated and high-performing internal communications team. This role will also be critical in ensuring a seamless connection for all Team Member communications across our print and digital internal channels, including collateral campaigns, email, Empire Wire, our companywide intranet, newsletters and text messages. The Director of Internal Communications will oversee all projects from the initial request phase, guiding the team through the development and execution stages, and ensuring the delivery of a polished final product. In partnership with the VP of Internal Communications, the Director of Internal Communications will help evolve our digital strategy to optimize our companywide intranet, Empire Wire. The successful candidate will analyze engagement metrics to enhance the connectivity among our diverse community of over 55,000 desktop and frontline Team Members across more than 50 locations. Additionally, this role involves content creation and management on Builder.io, ensuring our digital space remains vibrant and engaging. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented and organized, able to seamlessly manage multiple projects simultaneously, and fosters a highly collaborative team environment. They excel at balancing detailed tasks with high-level strategic planning and possess superior communication skills-written, verbal, and visual. We seek a seasoned professional with substantial experience in communications, whether from a corporate or agency background, who is adept at navigating complex organizational structures and has at least five years of experience in leadership and leading teams. Responsibilities: This role reports to the Vice President of Internal Communications, oversees the day-to-day operations of the Internal Communications team, and supports the Vice President in executing the company's overarching internal comms strategy. Oversee a team that develops written and visual content that informs, engages and inspires our Team members, ensuring they have the information they need to be successful. Serve as the chief editor, ensuring creative, meaningful, accurate and consistent messaging across all internal print and digital channels, including the company's internal newsletter and Empire Wire, the companywide intranet. Ensure the effective management of stakeholder requests, project assignments, content review processes and deadlines. Collaborate with the Manager of Internal Communications to ensure communications campaigns are strategically integrated between print and digital, including Empire Wire, our company intranet, and Empire Post, our companywide newsletter. Facilitate the content development, authoring, reviews, approvals and distribution of the company's internal newsletter. Support the optimization of Empire Wire, our companywide intranet. This includes identifying storytelling opportunities, reviewing analytics to drive engagement and conversion, and identifying new ways to grab the attention of our Team Members. Own strategy and execution of key internal comms initiatives, as assigned. Craft and disseminate executive communications on various subjects. Mentor, coach and manage a team of storytellers & graphic designers to create compelling content that inspires and connects our workforce. Manage Internal Communications digital subscriptions and renewals while ensuring alignment with the department budget. Facilitate the organization of internal communications files and archiving and recordkeeping. Track new technologies, approaches and strategies for internal communications; share key findings/recommendations with leadership. Trusted advisor to leaders across the organization, managing time-sensitive and confidential information. Contribute to crisis communications planning and response efforts as necessary. Champion our company brand and values, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with brand standards. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of communications experience; internal communications, journalism, public relations, etc. A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role and leading teams Exceptional communication skills, including writing, verbal and editing skills, with impeccable attention to detail. Proven track record of executing compelling and complex communications campaigns that drive Team Member engagement across multiple channels. Keen eye for using analytics to tell stories and make business recommendations to drive continuous improvement. Successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and collaborative problem-solving skills. A leader who prioritizes empathy and compassion, is dedicated to fostering growth and excellence in others. Experience working with senior management or clients. Seasoned in using AP Style. Technical skills - Adobe Creative Suite, Builder.io (or comparable content management system) and Microsoft Office.
