Job Summary/Basic Function

Working with the Arts at MU offers a front-row seat to diverse performing and visual artists from near and far while giving you the chance to hone your skills in writing, graphic design, analytics, and so much more. Join our team at the Ware Center and the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center and make a difference in the cultural landscape of our community! Parking in downtown Lancaster is provided.

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in writing, social media, graphic design, photography, and/or video production. (You do not need to be an expert in all, but a willingness to learn new communications skills is paramount!)
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.), navigating the internet, and using social media.
  • Willingness to perform varied duties, work with multiple projects at once, and manage deadlines.
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-manages assigned tasks.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or Photoshop) and willingness to learn more advanced skills will be helpful in this role.
  • Experience with web design or WordPress.
  • Experience with Google Analytics or other web-based analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of social media trends and best practices.
  • A passion for and/or experience in the performing and creative arts is a plus!


Job Duties
  • Assist with the creation of press releases, e-marketing messages, web content, blog posts, and other communications published by the Arts at MU.
  • Develop content for social media that informs, engages, and inspires students and the public to attend Arts at MU events.
  • Photograph or videotape selected Arts at MU events and prepare media for use on social media, pre-event promotions, and other communications using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ensure that the Box Office, various campus departments, and external clients have accurate event information for the public.
  • Manage internal and external calendars to meet communications deadlines for each event.
  • Research arts marketing trends in local, regional, and national markets and brainstorm new strategies for reaching diverse markets.
  • Explore opportunities to present Arts at MU programming to the student population.
  • Coordinate with other team members to market events and programs to students, the MU community, alumni, and the community at large.
  • Attend at least one Visual and Performing Arts event per month.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as handling the front desk, answering phones, selling event tickets, and folding programs.
  • Assist with events occurring at The Ware Center as needed by greeting patrons, setting up event spaces, ushering, etc.


Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • Ability to sit/stand and use a computer for the length of the shift.
  • Ability to lift 10-20 pounds.
  • Work area may be loud, with various lighting conditions including flashing lights, during events.
  • Dress: Business casual unless otherwise noted for a particular event or activity.
