Position Summary:

The Detroit Tigers are seeking a dynamic, agile, and forward-thinking individual for the role of Director, Baseball Communications. This person will lead and collaborate with members of the baseball communications team and other departments across the organization to utilize baseball information and player storytelling to positively shape narratives with public audiences. This person will provide public relations counsel to baseball operations personnel including the manager, players, coaches, and team executives; oversee the production of all baseball information; and be a key liaison between the Tigers and local/national media outlets. The ideal candidate for this role has the proven ability to anticipate challenges, develop proactive solutions, and enhance the Detroit Tigers brand to a wide range of audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with our baseball and business operations goals and objectives.Lead the production of high-quality baseball information, including game notes, press releases, and media guides, that effectively communicate team achievements and organizational goals.Collaborate with communications leaders to develop key messages and story opportunities that reinforce our organizational narrative.Serve as the day-to-day lead of all media and content requests involving uniformed personnel, including the operation of a monthly request process to ensure strategic use of our personnel's time.Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses that portray the team in a positive light and support brand initiatives.Provide strategic communication support to players, coaches, and executives to enhance their public profiles and effectively manage their interactions with the media.Anticipate potential challenges and develop proactive strategies to address emerging issues before they escalate, while also offering guidance during crisis situations to minimize negative impact on the team's brand image and ensure appropriate messaging.Act as primary contact with Major League Baseball on baseball communications-specific matters.Travel with the team during road trips throughout the regular season, and manage media relations operations during Spring Training in Lakeland, Florida.Oversee the credentialing process for media access to Comerica Park and Spring Training facilities.Supervise the Media Relations staff, including full-time and seasonal assistant colleagues.Participate in strategic communications planning under the guidance of department leadership.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, with a proven track record in sports or a high-profile organization preferred.Bachelor's degree in communications, sports management, or related field.Self-starter with strong multitasking ability in a fast-paced dynamic environment.Comprehensive understanding of media operations and potential challenges.Deep knowledge of baseball, including rules, statistics, and historical context.Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Proven collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders.Experience in research, oral presentations, and written communication.Bilingual fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) is advantageous.Requirements:

Preference for candidates with experience at another Major League team or its affiliates, or as a member of the working media.Fluency in spoken and written English.Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including Spring Training.Availability for long, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.Relocation to Detroit, Michigan, where the position is based.
