GENERAL SUMMARY INFORMATION:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President Retail Marketing and Community Relations (VPRMCR), the Director of Branding, Advertising & Merchandising (DBAM) oversees Island Energy’s family of brands, including the Texaco fuels brand and Ama convenience store brand. This position also manages retail partnerships, category performance, and merchandising within the company-owned and operated convenience (COCO) stores to create attractive consumer offerings.

Desired competencies include: prior supervisory experience, project management and strategic planning experience, and proven retail marketing and merchandising skills. The incumbent must be able to innovate and create using critical thinking skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven history as a motivated, self-starter who can drive multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in marketing roles. Provide experience in multi-tasking of work projects.
  • College degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or similar major preferred.

  • Proficient with Word Press or similar web creation and editing applications and able to update websites.
  • Experience with back-office systems like PDI, specifically with PDI Pricebook.
  • Experience with Taiga Data reporting tools.
  • Established vendor relationships in convenience retail or similar vendor management experience.

  • This is a safety-sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
  • Available to work after normal hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet task deadlines including after-hours and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to undertake personal and professional growth to increase ability to be a consistent contributor to the success of IES Retail.
  • This is not a remote or hybrid position. Position requires in-person attendance.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Planning and Execution
  • Develop and lead implementation of a one-to-five year marketing plan with S.M.A.R.T. goals and objectives and clearly defined strategies to position Texaco as the number one branded fuel in Hawai’i (by volume). Incumbent will work with key stakeholders through collaboration and execution of the marketing plan including approval from the VPMCR.
  • Increase Market Share: create, drive and execute deliverables with a focus on growing market share by improving consumer loyalty and attracting new customers.
  • Grow Non-Fuel Revenues and Market Share: create, drive and execute deliverables to generate increased revenue and profit; i.e., convenience store, carwash, back court utilizing:
  • Software and Technology; innovated processes, software and technology platforms to efficiently track business performance along the lines of a clearly defined suite of performance metrics to aid in enhancing customer experience and loyalty.
  • Integration of Company Owned Company Operated (CORO) and Retail Owned and Retail Operated (RORO) trade classes through franchise lease and supply agreements, creation of consistent brand offerings, merchandising, and promotions as high-performing, dependable customer-driven retailers.
  • Ama Brand: development and implementation of a plan to expand the Ama convenience store brand across the retail network, sourcing equipment, merchandising, and branded materials with the customer at the forefront of decision making.
  • Promotions, Branding and Marketing
  • In collaboration with other key stakeholders, stewards promotions and programs including community outreach events and planning. Negotiate sponsorship opportunities to promote the Texaco and Ama brands with selected organizations. Responsible for annual promotions calendar and marketing materials to support sponsorship and events.
  • Responsible for a substantial advertising budget to include direct media buying (TV, radio, print, and digital) platforms. Strategies include generating the highest ROI and tracking KPIs monthly to determine the effectiveness of each initiative. Lead and manage external advertising professionals and facilitate the strategic planning process with key internal stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute quarterly station level promotions to drive traffic to the 58+ Texaco and Ama locations across the state.
  • Manage the Texaco in Hawaii website and social media channels for Texaco and Ama in Hawai`i on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok, including drafting and executing all copy and creative, as well as moderating and responding to consumer inquiries online and ensuring current product offerings are current. Manage program metrics.
  • Proactively contribute to COCO operations by providing updates, i.e., operating standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Track and analyze category performance utilizing internal scan data and external market reports provided by retail partners. Responsible for pricing and margins for each category within the c-store, and complete field surveys to ensure market competitiveness.
  • Oversee product assortment, merchandising, planograms, and in-store layouts for COCO stations.
  • Oversee the Texaco Rewards Program ensuring continual efforts to build and increase brand loyalty (backcourt and forecourt sales).
  • Negotiate product costs, monthly specials, and vendor-funded promotions with retail partners to grow revenue. Responsible for overseeing monthly c-store promotions to draw customers into the backcourt from the forecourt, including working with Station Managers on site-specific offerings.
  • Manage product rebate programs and maximize programming to lower costs for the business and consumers.
  • Business Growth Opportunities
  • Canvas, research, and analyze business growth opportunities with key stakeholders.
  • Provide Retail segment performance on a weekly, quarterly basis with a primary emphasis on non-fuel sales.
  • Liaison with CORO and RORO retailers when needed to grow c-store sales via promotional opportunities category insights and advertising and promotions.
  • Grow MTO program through new recipe creation and implementation to support Ama brand reputation for quality fresh, quality made-to-order items.
  • Continually look for new profit-driving initiatives to expand the network.

Other Duties

  • Champions safety, reliability, and incident and injury-free operations. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies/rules, and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate management personnel. As a supervisor, trains, mentors, and coaches employees regarding safe work practices and documentation. Reports any unsafe or hazardous condition and initiates corrective action.
  • Teamwork – Collaborate with COCO Operations team, Business Consultants, and Business Development staff to ensure business results are delivered on time, within budget, and with a high degree of quality. Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner, listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others, keeping commitments, keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions, and respecting the diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
  • Manages People – Evaluates employee performance, counsels employees as necessary, and establishes performance improvement planning and activities. Oversees training of assigned personnel and timekeeping. Makes time for staff; provides regular performance feedback and develops direct reports’ skill and competency. Encourages growth, solicits feedback (internal and external). Leads by example. Responsible for annual performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VPRMCR.

Compensation

Island Energy Services offers a competitive salary that commensurate with qualifications and experience. The hiring annualized salary range for this position is $150,000 to $170,000.
