Andalusia Design is a startup architectural products manufacturer looking to disrupt the commercial specialty ceilings and wall market by making custom, high-design wood and metal systems more accessible to the architectural and design communities. Andalusia delivers on this vision by combining novel frontend design tools with on-site digital fabrication capabilities.
We are looking for a skilled and energetic Production Technician to join our manufacturing team and assist in actualizing our digital fabrication capabilities. This role will focus on fabrication in both metal and wood. The breadth of work will span from CNC programming to the precision use of hand tools and manual finishing equipment. In this role, you will work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to produce a finished product that meets the expectations of a discerning design eye.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Fabrication Operate advanced fabrication equipment including a 4-axis wood CNC router, a high-power fiber laser, and a CNC press brake. CNC programming and NC code maintenance/improvements. Daily machine bring-up and calibration. Track and perform ongoing equipment maintenance. Be hands-on with pilot runs of new products to ensure challenges in production are understood and promptly resolved. Partner with engineering to continuously improve workstations, mobile platforms, and fixturing needed to efficiently and safely process and move material and products through our facility.
Finishing & Assembly Support ongoing customer production through sanding, painting, and final assembly. Manage job order priority workflow and adherence to production travelers. Develop/refine work instructions to ensure accuracy on customer production runs and new product and feature additions. Maintain clean operating space and ensure all consumed material is counted and necessary replenishment requests are issued. Be hands-on with pilot runs of new products to ensure challenges in production are understood and promptly resolved. Partner with engineering to continuously improve workstations, mobile platforms, and fixturing needed to efficiently and safely process and move material and products through our facility.
Qualifications Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in metalworking or woodworking with 4+ years of direct experience fabricating with wood and/or metal and with 1+ year of accountability for multiple processes and overall finished part quality. (Candidates with relevant technical degrees and a proven track record of rapid adoption and proficiency with new technologies also considered). Experience with CAD modeling software preferred. Experience in the use of CAM platforms to translate designs to NC code for subtractive manufacturing processes preferred. Strong knowledge of and adherence to safe working practices with hand tools, power tools, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery. Willingness to engage to ensure the safety practices of others. Good understanding of, or interest in, architectural materials, preferably wood and metal Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute as needed to help the team. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to regularly move and position materials weighing up to 75 lbs. and position self and tools to work above, below, and behind obstructions.
Location & Reporting This position works out of Austin, TX, and reports to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a full-time, hourly position with an opportunity for overtime pay.
