Job Description

The Information Specialist 2 will be an integral member of the Communications team, providing photography and videography skills and coordinating the production of internal and external communication materials. As a creative visual storyteller, this position leads work on creating original content for websites, social media and print materials, maintains brand standards, works on communications projects and provides support to the Communications Director.
Your Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to the Iowa Department of Education and PK-12 education system around digital media/multimedia relative to implementation of statewide initiatives in consultation with the bureau chief and relevant program areas at the Iowa Department of Education. Manage and produce video and photo content for both deadline-sensitive events and special projects. Manage placement of multimedia and support products on the Department's websites and social media sites.
Photography and Videography: Shoot photos and/or video of events, spaces, interviews and other subjects as assigned. Edit and post-process projects for digital/social media platforms, digital signage, and other promotional materials using the Adobe Creative Suite. This position will work with content experts, writers and other content creators to maintain a consistent identity by following the Iowa Department of Education's brand guidelines while meeting marketing requirements.
Media Management: Organize and manage videos, photos, sorting and tagging.
General Communications: Edit and proofread agency materials; manage the setup of exhibitor booths at conferences and special events; identify marketing efforts and promotional materials for events and provide support for other parts of the bureau with duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications and experience equal to two years of full-time work planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.
2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Two years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and
b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of fulltime experience.
3) Number two above, where twenty-four semester hours of postgraduate coursework in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required full-time work experience.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 18 months of full-time work as an Information Specialist 1.

- Experience as a Multimedia Specialist
