Job Overview:
The Technical Designer reports to the Technical Design Director and is responsible for ensuring that brand quality fit, desired appearance, and quality construction standards are met and maintained, ensuring costumes and costume accessories meet customer specifications and consumer expectations. This includes meeting all requirements for product quality, construction, performance, and functionality. While based in the USA, the Technical Designer works closely with the Technical Director and design team, product development team, retail merchandising, product integrity, compliance, QA/QC, Sourcing and the overseas production team to establish quality and other technical standards that improve the customer experiences with our products, while also striving to elevate product quality. This position participates in meeting departmental goals to ensure brand integrity throughout the fit development process and not only meets customer expectation, but also exceeds it.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work closely with product design, development, QA (PSG), and management teams to define product specifications in terms of performance, functionality, color matching, intended users and uses, appearance, sizing, quality and fit.
- Lead all fit sessions; collaborate with designers and product developers to translate fit and aesthetic details.
- Maintain fit consistency for wearables while ensuring standard grade rules are applied to each garment.
- Collaborate with global colleagues to ensure every production run matches the reference samples kept in various control points, for example, Elmsford/Rockaway (USA), Asia PD (HK), and Factory.
- Improve technical quality standards for a variety of product formats, including, but not limited to, costumes, costume accessories and wearable products, based on industry developments, customer requirements, and other business priorities.
- Execute and update tech packs from initial sample to production, ensuring that the QA/QC teams have all the tools they need to approve production samples.
- Communicate with China office on a regular basis to maintain deadlines and problem solve fit and/or quality issues before, during or after production.
- Establish and maintain an approval sample library.
- Work with PSG colleagues to incorporate Risk Assessment into PD process.
- Collaborate with Product Integrity (PSG) team to define product quality test parameters, approve quality test reports and define use & care instructions.
Skills Required:
- Highly effective Garment/Product Technologist with substantial experience in either the apparel/costume industry or both.
- Competent in all aspects of garment technology from development through production.
- Solid working knowledge of fabrics, product specifications, garment fit and construction.
- Block/Sloper use and development experience.
- General knowledge of project management.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance procedures and implementation
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and product-related software and databases, including but not limited to web-based applications such as PDM, PLM, FLEX etc.
- Ability to multitask while ensuring a high level or productivity and superior attention to detail.
- Good team player with global collaboration and communication skills.
- Very organized and motivated to make a positive difference in product quality improvement.
- A positive attitude and ability to deliver in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.
Qualifications:
- AAS or higher Degree in textile technology, design or consumer product related field, or equivalent level of industry experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in the apparel industry, including patternmaking.
- 3+ years’ experience in Technical Design, Fashion, Design or similar industry
Expected Salary Range: $66,000 to $85,000
The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay. PCHI reserves the right to pay more or less than the stated range based on a variety of factors such as experience, geography, etc.
