Description Department: Church Publishing Inc Job Type: Regular Full Time Education Level: BA/BS Required Years Experience: 3 Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI), founded in 1918, is a multimarket publisher of books and electronic resources. Morehouse Publishing, the trade books imprint includes titles in inspiration, leadership, spirituality, social justice and wellness. Seabury books, the academic imprint publishes scholarly books in religion and theology. Church Publishing is the home of official liturgical works of the Episcopal Church and church resources. The suite of electronic resources includes RiteSong, RitePlanning and RiteFormation. The Junior Business Analyst- Publishing will report to the VP, Business Management and Operations in Church Publishing, Inc (CPI). The position will have key responsibilities supporting CPI in daily financial operations. Performs specialized work that requires comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and (GAAP) principles. Experience in Accounting or Finance preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration. Create monthly summaries of financial performance and key performance indicators. Support the financial monthly close process, including detailed analyses of sales, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, accruals, and title count. Maintain our royalty system data (licensors, projects, agreements, etc.), royalty accounting, and analysis. This includes preparing monthly accrual entries, recording related accounting, and analyzing unearned advances in accordance with industry standard practices. Track licensing agreements and outstanding payments. Process Inventory/Cost accounting transactions. Assist in the preparation of forecasts and annual budgets Assist on special projects and analyses (sales trends, cost, profitability, etc.) QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to exercise sound judgment and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Solid business and analytical skills, including comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and (GAAP) principles. Accounting support experience specific to publishing. Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize, ideally combined with an ability to see the big picture. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across all levels and functions. Experience with data control, accuracy and consistency. Proven analytical ability related to publishing. Proven vendor management support. Publishing specific knowledge is strongly preferred, including industry standard practices and global multimarket publishing and implications to operations practices. Intermediate knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables and VLOOKUP). EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE BA/BS required, in Accounting or Finance preferred. 3+ years of corporate book publishing or media industry work experience, with at least 2 years in finance or accounting in an analytical position is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Commuting to the office, on average, three days a week. Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. WORK ENVIRONMENT Currently, hybrid work environment, which requires working in CPG's office Tuesdays through Thursdays and flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
