The Foundation primarily supports small to midsize arts and socially engaged organizations that are contrarian and experimental, even courageous, in driving towards equity. In addition, the Foundation amplifies the creative life of artists and scholars across the disciplines through residencies, commissions, and accessible public platforms. Finally, the Foundation supports research, exhibitions, publications, academic partnerships, and special projects across the globe that promote the legacy of Rauschenberg's joyful, responsive, and irreverent approach to making work while living an empathetic and meaningful life.

Position Summary:

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation seeks to engage a committed, experienced professional as a key member of the Rauschenberg Residency staff. The Studio Coordinator directly assists artists at the residency program located at the international, multidisciplinary community in Captiva, Florida. The residency supports 80+ artists and scholars annually through a series of five-week residencies.

The Studio Coordinator provides direct, daily support to the artists in an effort to bring forward the artists' individual visions for their projects. The role's main functions are to assist the artists while in residence, provide support for the Studio Manager, and in between residencies to clean and prep studio spaces and equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

During Residencies:

  • Provide hands-on assistance for artists in residence in areas such as Sound Recording/Editing, Video Recording/Editing, Image Capturing and Editing, using Adobe programs, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, etc.
  • Film and edit two-minute video interviews of artists capturing their unique backgrounds and summarizing their RR projects.
  • Track studio and equipment sign-up sheets; manage artists' requests and usage of studios and electronic equipment, including but not limited to, video and photographic cameras, tripods, equipment cords, and studio speakers. Explain the sign-up process to artists on Orientation day.
  • Maintain audio visual equipment to ensure it is in proper working order and assist the artists with downloading data files from equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance for all printers. Monitor the ink inventory and inform the SM when the inventory is low.
  • Manage distribution and collection of equipment waiver forms on Orientation day and distribution of the packing & shipping forms the week before the end of each residency. (This may be automated through AirTable.)
  • Complete daily janitorial duties in studios including dusting, sweeping, and emptying trash and recycling bins.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair projects, as needed.
  • Work independently on projects, as assigned.

Pre-and Post-residency:

  • Work with the SM to ensure the maintenance of the studio spaces and equipment.
  • Work with staff to define and prepare studio space for each residency.

General Administration:

  • Update usage guides for each artistic area, including but not limited to screen printing, fabrication, and large format printing.
  • Provide assistance as requested by Property Manager and/or Residency Director
  • Submit ideas for social media posts, as able

Community Outreach and Special Events:

  • Transport artists to community outreach events and weekly shopping trips, as assigned.
  • Arrange pre-set-up and post-event clean-up for Open Studios and other special events.
  • Assist with special event preparation and support, as needed.
  • Manage gifted artwork collection (measuring, matting, framing, installation) and other local exhibitions/loans, as applicable.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Preferably 3-5 years of digital media experience.
  • Proficient in sound recording/editing, video recording/editing and image editing and use of Adobe products is desired.
  • Knowledge of screen-printing is a plus.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office.
  • Open to learning new skills and cross training in various artistic methods/techniques.
  • Creative and innovative self-starter.
  • Excellent oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, excel at time management, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Display a commitment to advancing and nurturing an inclusive, diverse community.
  • Exhibit diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to anticipate obstacles and offer solutions.

ADA Specifications:

  • Requires the ability to use a computer and office equipment traditionally found in office settings.
  • The ability to traverse stairs.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
