About Us: our client is a leading automotive dealership, known for their exceptional customer service and a wide range of high-quality vehicles. We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Dealership Accountant to join our finance team. This role is essential for maintaining the financial integrity of our dealership and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities of the Dealership Accountant:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
Monitor and report on financial performance, including key metrics such as gross profit, expenses, and net income.
Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing actionable insights to management.
General Ledger Maintenance:
Manage and maintain the general ledger, including posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, floor plan, inventory, and other balance sheet accounts.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices and collection of receivables.
Reconcile dealership statements and resolve discrepancies with vendors and customers.
Inventory Accounting:
Manage vehicle and parts inventory accounting, including tracking inventory levels, reconciling physical counts, and ensuring accurate costing and valuation.
Work closely with the sales and service departments to monitor inventory transactions and adjust for any discrepancies.
Compliance & Audit:
Ensure compliance with all dealership financial policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Payroll & Commissions:
Assist in processing payroll, including calculating and verifying commissions for sales staff.
Ensure accurate and timely payment of wages, commissions, and bonuses in compliance with dealership policies.
Process Improvement:
Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes, recommending updates to policies and procedures as needed.
Qualifications of the Dealership Accountant:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in an automotive dealership or similar industry.
Proficiency in dealership management software (e.g., Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK Global) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Strong understanding of GAAP and automotive accounting principles.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with all dealership departments.
CPA or similar certification is a plus but not required.
