Who we want:

The Grants Manager will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to various funders, including governmental agencies and foundations. The position will collaborate with department and organization leadership to solicit current and potential grant funders for both restricted and unrestricted support of United Way's mission and programs. This role requires strong writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external funders. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful grant applications and an understanding of the nonprofit funding landscape.

What you'll do:
  • Research: Identify potential funding opportunities by researching grant-making organizations, foundations, and government agencies relevant to our mission and programs.
  • Proposal Writing: Prepare compelling, accurate, and well-structured grant proposals that align with funding requirements and organizational goals. Ensure all proposals meet deadlines.
  • Budget Development: Collaborate with finance and program staff to develop realistic budgets for grant proposals that reflect project needs and funder requirements.
  • Reporting: Work with program staff and Grants Compliance Manager to prepare and submit timely reports to funders to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders and partners. Attend meetings and networking events to represent the organization.
  • Documentation: Maintain an organized database of grant opportunities, proposals, and reports. Track deadlines and submission statuses.

What you'll bring:
  • Two or more years of demonstrated experience with research and writing. Relevant experience may include:
Background in nonprofit, public policy, or journalism

Experience with government grants, including federal funding and Texas state funding

Experience in securing funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors preferred

Subject matter expertise in early childhood education, public health, coalition-building
  • Strong analytical and research abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with Salesforce and Asana a plus
  • Strong project management skills:
Demonstrated use of project management systems/tools preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working with diverse teams
  • An ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced work environment
  • Interest in and commitment to United Way's mission

This position is located in Austin, Texas, and reports directly to the Grants Director.
