TL;DR Kharon is seeking a full-time editor to manage the daily operations of the Kharon Brief. This role is based fully onsite at one of our office locations in Washington D.C. or NYC.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and mentor a small team of writers, focusing on the delivery of news, trending and evergreen stories, and distinct analysis.
  • Generate, plan, and assign story ideas.
  • Rigorously edit, copy edit, assemble, and publish stories with accuracy and speed.
  • Establish a compelling and approachable voice for our coverage.
  • Champion story formats that prioritize accessibility and respect our audience's time.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Content + Strategy and company stakeholders to develop strategies and conceptualize coverage that supports broader business goals and objectives.
  • Utilize Kharon's innovative research and data tools to generate story ideas.
  • Learn and stay current with terminology and news related to our pillars, such as sanctions and export controls
  • Write engaging headlines, captions, and social media posts.
  • Assist in editing newsletters and videos.
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Contribute to the overarching conceptual vision for the Kharon Brief, including long-term direction and expansion opportunities.
  • Use data and analytics to evaluate performance and make strategic adjustments.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of search optimization to identify coverage opportunities.


Requirements:
  • Over 5 years of newsroom editing experience.
  • Passion for global, national security, business, and political news.
  • Experience with or an interest in compliance issues, including sanctions, financial crimes, export controls, military end-use, supply chains, and forced labor.
  • Strong copy editing skills and fluency in AP style.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and SEO best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-growth, fast-paced environments with strong adaptability to change.
  • Keen judgment, initiative, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Attentive to detail with excellent interpersonal skills.

Reporting to the Director of Content + Strategy, this position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Kharon Brief. As the storytelling arm of Kharon, the Brief provides insight into the complex world in which we operate, appealing to customers,d industry professionals and other stakeholders. By leveraging our in-depth research and analysis, we craft stories that go beyond mainstream headlines, offering context that is both interesting and invaluable. The Brief is entering a new chapter, enhancing its operations with a renewed focus on producing coverage that prioritizes accessibility, while aligning with and advancing core business objectives. You will play a pivotal role in this evolution as we expand the team and hone our editorial strategy. Key responsibilities include mentoring your lean team of writers, working with collaborators and stakeholders throughout the business, and producing a dynamic daily report.

The base salary range at Kharon is set between $115,000 and $150,000. Please note that this figure does not necessarily include potential bonuses, commissions, or benefits that may be part of the overall compensation package.
