Description Questions Job Description The Second Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for Court Reporter openings. The position may be assigned to work for any Judicial Officer in the Second Judicial District per operational needs, travel is required. Starting salary dependent upon relevant courtroom experience. Court Reporter positions are open until filled, but considered as applications are received. Positions may be filled before the stated deadline. Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request. Makes verbatim typed record of testimony and proceedings as required. Prepares transcripts, performs general office work and provides substantial clerical support for the Court. Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings. Electronic document filing is required in all District 2 counties, so a high level of computer proficiency is essential. Performs related work as determined by the supervising judicial officer or the Chief Judge or designee. Specific primary assignment(s) as designated by the District Court Administrator. Minimum Qualification Requirements Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and graduation from a school of court reporting. Must be certified by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters within 12 months of employment, and certification must be maintained as a condition of employment. Certification demonstrates proficiency based on the standard of the National Court Reporters Association for the earned designation of Registered Professional Reporter or the National Verbatim Reporters Association for the earned designation of Certified Verbatim Reporter. Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment.
