The Communications & Dissemination Coordinator position is in the Community, Health Equity & Tribal Epidemiology Section of the Community & Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau in the Center for Health Protection at the New Mexico Department of Health. Why does the job exist? The purpose of this position is to promote the health and well-being within and across all communities and populations in New Mexico through the principles of applied epidemiology, public health theory and quality improvement practices. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with and ensuring comprehensive, quality health data are available and accessible to the public and partners in New Mexico. The incumbent will serve as the premiere expert in the agency on health communications, data interpretation and dissemination, and work closely with internal, interagency and external partners to improve dissemination of epidemiologic findings and communication of health information and programs. The incumbent will participate as an active member of the Center for Health Protection team and may also contribute to program planning, grant writing and reporting, and participate in policy development efforts. How does it get done? The incumbent will ¿ -Work with/coordinate NM Data Stewards to identify and collect latest available data in the development of Community Indicator Profiles, Epidemiology Reports, Press Releases and/or other publications and medium. -Plan, organize, and perform effective health communications activities which align with the goals of the Center. -Disseminate information virtually and/or in person via presentations or at events throughout the State of New Mexico. Who are the customers? Internal and external partner organizations; the people of New Mexico. Ideal Candidate Ideal Candidate: Experience in health communications, health education and/or marketing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation. Ability to interpret epidemiological findings and translate into tailored messaging for a wide range of audiences. Ability to be responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines while complying with state and federal regulations. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Minimum Qualification Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences or Statistics. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
