Description

This Community Affairs position supports the communication branch of the City of Westerville. It assists in multimedia development, outreach and strategic planning to promote social engagement and public relations, with special emphasis on the economic development division of the City Manager's Office.

Work requires graphic design proficiency, advanced skills in new and emerging media, strong work ethic and independent judgment. Work involves significant contact with the City's organizational branding and social networks.

The Digital Media Intern works closely with all City departments, Westerville residents and businesses, elected officials, and volunteer and service organizations.

SUPERVISION

Reports to the Community Affairs Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

Designs artistic, visual communications, including organizational graphics, digital and print material and infographics to inspire, inform and call to action.

Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, including active listening skills.

Demonstrates experience in graphic design, video/audio production and editing.

Develops external and internal digital content for web, social media and other channels, as well as produces motion graphics and edits film/video for communication purposes.

Applies vision and technical expertise in working directly with the City Manager's Office to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive, dynamic social media and digital communications plan to brand Westerville as a regional and national destination for residents, visitors and importantly, business.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Pursuing a degree in Communications/Public Relations, Visual Design, Marketing or related field.

Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies, preferred.

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and related software.

A general understanding of AP-style writing, preferred.

RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.

Personal Leave
Eligible for 24 hours of personal leave if more than 500 hours worked in previous calendar year.

Eligible for 40 hours of personal leave if more than 1000 worked in previous calendar year.
