Job Description
The University Library at Nevada State University is seeking applications for the position of Library Specialist - Access Services. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Library, the ideal candidate will contribute to a forward-thinking team committed to redefining the role of the university library. The Library Specialist - Access Services is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure efficient operation of library facilities. This role oversees the management of the library service desk, the library annex, a team of library student assistants, and the technology lending program.

Budgeted salary for this position is $52,197. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.

Primary Responsibilities:
Service Desk Management
- Develop and document policies and procedures for daily library operations based on process improvement best practices and philosophies.
- Manage all front desk services including the implementation of Library policies and procedures in relation to customer service.
- Create and maintain efficient library facility spaces; oversee the maintenance of the facility and equipment including circulating technology.
- Manage department projects efficiently with responsibility for timely and accurate completion.
- Manage the fines, billing, and replacement process for late and/or lost items.
- Serve as the Library's Ex Libris Alma circulation expert; provide support and troubleshooting for Nevada State University students, staff, and faculty.
Student Employee Recruitment, Training, and Supervision
- Directly manage and develop the Library's student wage budget, totaling approximately $60,000 per year.
- Directly manage approximately ten student assistant employees.
- Maintain fair and effective hiring practices to recruit excellent candidates for student assistant positions.
- Create and maintain a structured training program, policies, and standards for student employees.
- Maintain a staffing schedule and coordinate employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
- Prioritize and delegate projects to student employees as needed.
- Maintain accountability of student employees by monitoring work quality, timeliness, and customer service.
Technology Services and Device Lending Management
- Create policies and procedures that effectively communicate and support the circulation of library technology.
- Ensure that the technology device fleet is kept in good working order through regular maintenance, and through the development of procedures that promote the good maintenance of the devices.
- Implement, maintain, and market innovative technology services.
- Catalog and inventory all circulating technology.
Outreach and Engagement Coordination
- Coordinate student engagement events and activities, such as Welcome Week and Finals Week programming, to enhance students' connection to the Library.
- Oversee the Library's involvement in New Student Orientation by delivering presentations and managing tables at resource fairs.
- Collaborate with team members to effectively promote library resources and collections to students.
- Conduct library tours and orientations for community groups as needed, fostering awareness of library services.
- Represent the Library at campus events, engaging with diverse audiences to strengthen its presence and support.
- Independently manage outreach projects that increase student engagement and visibility of library services.
Rotational Assignments: Interlibrary Loan Management and Accounting Processes
- In the absence of primary staff member/s, manages the library's interlibrary loan services including processing requests accurately and efficiently.
- In the absence of primary staff member/s, oversees and approves processed & posted invoices for all library material expenditures by the University Library.
Professional Development and Training
- Engages proactively in professional training opportunities, departmental meetings, functions, and events.
- Continuously updates and enhances knowledge and skills in both primary and backup responsibilities.
- Recognizes areas for improvement and pursues targeted solutions to strengthen skills with appropriate guidance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven experience in quickly learning new skills and technologies.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
