Marketing & Communications Intern

An internship with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.
The Marketing & Communications Intern will work as part of a team to support the National MS Society marketing team, including Brand & Communications, Content Strategy, Constituent Experience and Digital Experience & Analytics. This is a fully remote paid internship available for Spring 2025 (January/February start, May/June end - not to exceed 200 hours total)
There are no in-person or event volunteering requirements for this internship, and this intern can be based remotely anywhere in the US.
Key Responsibilities:
This internship provides wider perspectives in integrated marketing communications. The following responsibilities may be flexed depending on the interests and skills of the intern, as well as departmental needs:
- Brand & Communications Support (25%)
- Support strategic communications and public relations by researching media lists, drafting pitches and creating media coverage reports
- Conduct research to identify market trends, competitor activities, and audience preferences
- Assist in gathering and analyzing data to support marketing strategies and campaigns
- Content Strategy Support (25%)
- Create content such as short form web content, digital articles, print magazine articles, infographics, email content and/or videos
- Contribute to the day-to-day management of the National MS Society's social media presence - including engagement, community management
- Support social media content creation, curation and scheduling
- Assist with project management for content creation, such as sourcing images and updating our project management system and content repository
- Support digital advertising tactic creation for Google/Bing, Meta, etc. and print/digital advertising for Momentum Magazine
- Constituent Experience Support (25%)
- Support project planning and management by building projects in Asana
- Assist with production, implementation and tracking of marketing campaigns across departments
- Research and present ideas for improvements for current and future marketing campaigns
- Build presentations that demonstrate campaign performance and synthesize data across channels
- Digital Experience & Analytics Support (25%)
- Support development of analytics dashboards
- Support search engine optimization (SEO) keyword research and reporting
- Support analysis of personalization campaigns and resulting recommendations
- Support user research activities
- Understand the development and execution of paid, earned, owned and shared media tactics used in an integrated marketing communications strategy.
- Develop skills in research, copywriting, media relations, content strategy, digital advertising and more.
- Gain insights into the inner workings of marketing and communications.
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree as a sophomore, junior or senior or any year in graduate school.
- Open to all majors, with a preference for marketing, public relations, communications, advertising or related fields.
- Proficiency in AP Style
- Strong writing skills
- Not required but bonus points for: Experience using Sprout Social, graphic design software, and/or video production software
- Not required but bonus points for: Spanish language fluency
- Ability to work 10-15 hours per week during standard working hours
- Access to reliable internet
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

The hourly rate for internships is $15, except when noted differently above OR where local minimum wage exceeds that figure, in which case the hourly rate will be the higher of the two.
