About Our Agency:
South Carolina ETV (SCETV) is the state's public educational broadcasting network. SCETV amplifies South Carolina voices, provides educational experiences and strengthens communities, while working to create a stronger, more connected and informed South Carolina. SCETV provides national and local content to classrooms via internet services Knowitall.org and PBS Learning Media. SCETV also provides teacher training and re-certification in face-to-face and online settings.
Job Purpose: Operate, support, and maintain distribution and transmission sites and systems across multiple locations within the assigned area of operation, under the direct supervision of the Regional Supervisor. Complete tasks and projects related to these systems as assigned.
Job Duties:Primary Service Equipment Support. Performs routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on equipment related to TV and FM Radio signal distribution, processing, and transmission. Adheres to preventive maintenance standards and schedules defined by management, record completion, variation or other appropriate data utilizing provided tools. Order or purchase parts, supplies, and tools within agency and State procurement guidelines as required.
Secondary Service Equipment Support. Supports and maintains various systems not related to our TV and FM Radio transmissions that reside at our transmission or distribution sites. This includes various 2-way radio systems, weather stations and radios, related computers, servers, and supporting power backup and/or distribution systems. This may include confirming compliance of third party or client systems and
licenses residing on ETV property.
Signal Compliance and Recordkeeping. Assists in metrics collection and preparation of reports and documentation as directed by Regional Supervisor. This may include any of various measurements or logs defined as standard procedure, FCC record keeping either as a primary or secondary, EAS and other legal or standards compliance as assigned by management.
On-call Support and Emergency Response. Works as part of an on-call team, responding to emergent issues and incidents as needed based on agency service level standards. Regional Supervisor will maintain any applicable rotational schedules or standing assignments or responsibility. Occasionally, tasks outside regular working hours may be scheduled to avoid or reduce impact to audience or agency services. Engineers may be asked to coordinate or collaborate with other teams or region(s) to best serve our needs.
Grounds and Structure Maintenance. Works with Regional Supervisors and other departments as appropriate to ensure upkeep and maintenance of ETV remote site grounds, buildings, towers, and associated systems such as HVAC, Power, Plumbing, guy lines and anchors, grounding etc., as appropriate. This may include simple repairs, reporting and planning with management for larger issues, or coordination with management and vendors for items that are contracted to third parties as appropriate.
Documentation of Systems and Services. Assist Regional Supervisor in the creation, correction and upkeep of any drawings, as-builts, licensing, guides, procedures etc related to sites and the systems that reside there. Ensure processes and procedures set by Transmissions Manager and Regional Supervisors are closely adhered to. Work with management to identify needs and fill them.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
An Associate degree in electronics and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
An Associate degree in electronics and three years of operating and maintaining a TV, FM, or other High Power transmitter installation; experience managing digital transmitters. Possession of FCC General Class Amateur Radio license or SBE CBE certification preferred. Military Communications Engineering experience preferred.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
