Preferred Qualifications Position Summary The Assistant Editor is responsible for research, editing, and production of publications generated by the museum, both exhibition-related and general. This individual supervises interns and students within the department and reports to the director of communications/editor. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

- Ability to maintain budgets, timelines, and inventory of publications.
- Sitting for long periods of time at a computer terminal.
- Lift boxes weighing approximately 35 pounds.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
- Serves as editor of museum's newsletter (set story budget and deadlines; obtain images; writes as necessary; work with designer and printer; make sure copies are distributed via mail and elsewhere).
- Serves as managing editor of museum's blog: assigns stories, edits, adds to Wordpress website, ensures that they have photos, and writes as needed.
- Manages wholesale sales of museum publications and maintains inventory of publications storage room.
- Proofreads label copy for exhibitions, blog posts, press releases, and other content.
- Submits publications for awards.
- Markets completed publications.
- Provides general office assistance for vacant positions.
- Assists with production of museum publications from rough-draft stage (substantial editing, contact with authors, obtaining images) to working with graphic designers (reading page proofs) to working with printers (color proofing, maintaining schedule) and mailing complimentary/review copies of finished work, as time allows.
