Summer Intern - Admin / Social Media and Digital Content
The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.
The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.
We are seeking a summer intern to join the Communications department for the summer of 2025. They will work on creating, publishing, and analyzing content performance across Allen Institute's social media accounts. This intern will lead strategy, content creation, and campaign execution for Intern Week which takes place on the last week of July, and they will have opportunities to support additional social campaigns, announcements, and integrated digital outreach.

Duties include but are not limited to
- Writing engaging social media copy
- Developing social media graphics using Adobe design products
- Producing social media videos with scripts, on-air talent, smartphone cameras, and video editing software
- Developing social media plans for stand-alone campaigns and integrated digital outreach
- Partnering with editorial, media and marketing teams to develop and project manage social media for cross-team communication campaigns
- Using Sprout Social to schedule content, engage with comments, and analyze content performance
- Participating in obtaining stakeholder approval for social content
- Seeking, curating, and sharing positive media coverage of the Allen Institute
- Assisting in drafting internal communications related to social media campaigns or initiatives

Educational Objectives
- Develop and hone skills in digital content creation including copywriting, photography, and video content creation
- Learn the basics of Adobe Creative suite to produce short-form video and graphics
- Gain experience producing strategic social media plans that support greater digital integrated outreach initiatives
- Gain experience in presenting a defined brand voice, image, and identity to a social media audience
- Learn how to use Sprout Social, a social media management platform
- Participate in campaign analysis and refinement
- Gain more public speaking confidence via the Allen Institute intern poster symposium
- Basic communications-related knowledge
- Experience leading communication campaigns
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be enrolled in, or a 2025 graduate of an accredited associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree program
- Must be able to start on either June 9th or June 23rd, 2025 and commit to the full 10-week program
- Must be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Open Office Environment
- Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds
- Push/pull up to 20 pounds
- Interns are expected to work 35-40 hours a week throughout the 10-week period
- This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.

- **Travel and/or housing stipend available to qualifying interns**
- $21.50 per hour (non-negotiable)
- Interns will accrue paid sick days and receive a free Seattle transportation card (ORCA Business Passport)
