Job Description
Lyon College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music position, starting in
August 2025. This role is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, growing institution committed to
inspiring curiosity. The salary range is $52,000-$62,000, depending on a candidates experience.
Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in Music.
Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred, but 3-5 years experience teaching at the
secondary level will be considered.
Ability to work with students at various levels of development.
A demonstrated commitment to liberal arts education is essential.
Desirable Qualifications:
Expertise in voice lessons and choral conducting.
A background in music theory.
Desire and ability to recruit students at a grass-roots level (i.e., high school visits, etc.)
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Teach our introductory course in music as well as advanced music courses in their areas of
expertise.
Engage in a 3/4 (21 hours) teaching schedule annually.
Engage in scholarship and creative activities.
Organize music events and manage the music department budget.
Serve on college committees and participate in college governance; serve as an academic
adviser (starting in the second year); participate in recruiting activities as appropriate; engage
in curricular development and assessment efforts; and engage with the surrounding
community.
