Summary:
This position is REMOTE (United States-based) position with occasional travel to Arlington, Virginia. The Communication Strategist (Intermediate/Off-Site) will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of strategic communication campaigns for the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs. This role requires a strong understanding of strategic communication principles, media relations, and public affairs best practices within the Department of Defense. The successful candidate will possess excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic communication plans in support of Army priorities and objectives.
- Conduct research and analysis of target audiences, media landscapes, and competitive environments.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, and other communication materials.
- Coordinate media outreach activities, including press conferences, media interviews, and media tours (may require occasional travel to The Pentagon).
- Monitor media coverage and prepare media reports and analysis.
- Provide support to senior leadership on communication matters.
- Advise on the development and implementation of social media strategies.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of relationships with key media outlets and stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of current events and trends in the media and communication landscape.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 years of demonstrated strategic/tactical/media communication level experience within the last 10 years.
- Skills:
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills (including presentation skills)
- Analytical & Research: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Strong research and information gathering skills
- Project Management: Project management and organizational skills
- Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team; Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Experience with collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams)
- Adaptability: Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic environment
- Attention to Detail: Attention to detail and accuracy
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience working with the Department of Defense or other government agencies.
- Knowledge of military operations and culture.
- Experience with crisis communication.
