Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface / Patent Agent to join their Seattle office. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications for clients in various industries, focusing on software, artificial intelligence, IoT, and quantum technologies.
- Conduct detailed patentability searches and provide counsel on patent strategy, portfolio development, and intellectual property protection.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to understand complex inventions and convert them into strong patent applications.
- Draft technical documents and legal correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and clarity.
- Work directly with clients to ensure clear communication regarding patent-related matters, strategies, and timelines.
- Monitor patent processes, including office actions, and respond effectively to ensure the timely progression of applications.
- Provide guidance on IP portfolio management and patent filing strategies tailored to client needs.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, particularly in software, AI, IoT, and quantum technologies, to better assist clients.
- Support litigation and infringement analysis when necessary.
Education and Certifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
- Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
Experience and Requirements:
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience, preferably within a law firm setting.
- Experience working with software-related technologies and familiarity with artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. patent laws, USPTO guidelines, and patent prosecution processes.
Skills and Competencies:
- Exceptional writing and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in clear legal terms.
- Proficiency in drafting patent claims and technical documents with attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess the commercial viability and patentability of inventions.
