Job Description: Senior Technical Writer
Job Summary:
The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for creating and publishing technical documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, and project reports. This position involves collecting and interpreting technical data, working collaboratively with subject matter experts, and ensuring that all technical content is clear, accurate, and aligned with project goals. The role requires a deep understanding of the project's technical requirements and ensures that the documentation supports both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, write, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system guides, training manuals, standard operating procedures, and project-specific reports.
- Interpret complex technical data, collaborating with project managers, engineers, and subject matter experts to ensure documentation is accurate and user-friendly.
- Structure and organize technical content to ensure ease of understanding for diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical users.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle, ensuring timely updates and revisions as project requirements evolve.
- Coordinate the layout and design of technical documents for publication, ensuring professional presentation and adherence to organizational standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and ensure technical documentation aligns with project goals and objectives.
- Conduct technical reviews of documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project standards and guidelines.
- Provide feedback and editing support to other team members on technical content.
- Ensure that documentation complies with nondiscrimination requirements and integrates demographic data where relevant.
- Develop and publish reports summarizing the impact of the technical assistance or systems coordination activities, demonstrating how the project supports the goals of the initiative.
- Assist in creating project narratives, outlining community needs, proposed activities.
- Document methodologies and approaches used to assess and meet the goals of the project, including data-driven evaluations and monitoring techniques.
- Collaborate with project teams to create dissemination tools, best practice reports, and evaluation summaries to share lessons learned and promote success across other jurisdictions.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field.
- 4 to 7 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the healthcare, public health, or IT sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in developing technical documentation for complex projects.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with technical documentation tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, MadCap Flare).
- Experience working with federal or healthcare-related projects is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The projected compensation range for this position is $96,250 to $126,250 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $109,000. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
