Politico is hiring: Technology Reporter in Arlington
Politico, Arlington, VA, United States, 22201
POLITICO is seeking a smart, enterprising reporter to cover one of the hottest stories in the world: the political and policy collisions as the tech sector upends the norms of society, business and democracy.
The core of the beat is social media platforms, both how they shape the national conversation and how governments are struggling to manage their impact. The ideal candidate will be able to break news regularly and take an ambitious view of the field - covering the industry's vast influence on politics and society, as well as keeping insiders abreast of Washington, state-level and global efforts to regulate the field.
We're excited for a reporter who knows how to work the halls of Congress and agencies to break news, and can also see the full picture clearly enough to execute broad stories about technology as a power base. The beat is rich in ideas, personalities and influence, and POLITICO offers the right journalist a chance to build a truly global footprint.
The ideal candidate will possess a passion for politics, a thirst for scoops, strong writing skills and a demonstrated ability to serve as a thought leader on trends in technology policy and politics. We also prize a collaborative spirit, and enthusiasm for working across news teams in Politico's Washington office, as well as across state and national borders with colleagues in Brussels, London, and Sacramento.
You'll be joining a motivated team of tech policy beat reporters and expected to contribute to the full range of POLITICO's policy coverage, from sweeping homepage stories written for a national audience to breaking-news updates delivered in real time to subscribers. We also have audio and events franchises that offer unique outlets for a versatile journalist's full range of ambitions.
What You'll Need:
- A strong, clearly demonstrated grasp of tech policy and politics
- Track record of writing clearly and accurately on deadline while juggling multiple fast-moving story lines
- Proven ability to deliver scoops and uncover emerging trends
- A track record of driving stories that hold those in power accountable
