Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marketing and Membership Director to join our national trade association. As the Marketing and Membership Director, you will be pivotal in developing and implementing strategic marketing initiatives and driving membership growth. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing our brand awareness, expanding our membership base, and ensuring the success of our association. The ideal candidate is a dynamic professional with a proven marketing, membership management, chapter relations, and strategic planning track record.
Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy and Execution · Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to increase brand awareness, promote all member benefits and events, and attract new members.
· Oversee the development of creative marketing campaigns, including digital marketing, social media, email marketing, and digital advertising, as well as print collateral, and events, to engage existing members and recruit new members.
· Monitor and analyze KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and membership initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
· Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices in marketing and membership management, sharing relevant insights and recommendations with the leadership team.
· Oversee user experience, including the association and consumer facing websites.
· Understands the value of content creation and marketing planning and automation with AI.
Membership Program Development and Retention · Facilitate and utilize market research and member feedback to identify industry trends, opportunities, and challenges and adjust marketing and membership program strategies accordingly.
· Manage the membership lifecycle by implementing effective membership management systems and processes, including acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
· Develop and implement targeted membership recruitment campaigns to attract professionals, organizations, and stakeholders to join the association.
· Maintain accurate membership databases and generate reports on membership metrics, trends, and growth opportunities for senior management.
· Plan and staff consumer and industry events to showcase the association's value proposition and expand its presence within the industry.
· Foster strong relationships with existing members to provide exceptional customer service, address inquiries and concerns, and identifying opportunities for increased engagement.
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and execute member-focused programs, benefits, and services that align with the needs and interests of the association's diverse membership base.
· Oversee staffing of various volunteer led committees.
Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
· At least 10 years of experience in marketing and membership management, preferably within a national trade association, including at least 5 years in a marketing director role.
· Strong understanding of marketing principles, digital/social media strategies, and membership acquisition/retention techniques.
· Demonstrated success in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing plans and campaigns that increased brand visibility and membership growth.
· Proficient in utilizing various marketing channels, including social media, email, content, event marketing, and digital advertising.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling marketing content and effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to gather and interpret data, analyze trends, and make strategic recommendations.
· Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Proactive and results-oriented mindset, focusing on delivering measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.
· Knowledge of membership management systems, CRM software, and analytics tools.
· Strong presentation skills
· Clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with chapters/components/communities in membership-based organizations.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
· Develop and monitor budget for all areas of authority.
· Manage three direct reports
