COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST- MEDIA RELATIONS
Estimated Hiring Range: $53,271.04 - $62,535.56 Based on Experience
What would a typical day on the job be like? What work would I do? As a Communications Specialist in the Communications Department, you will be responsible for a variety of public information, media relations, and marketing activities designed to keep the public informed of the City’s programs, accomplishments and position on current issues while promoting the goodwill of the organization. You will be counted on to write and edit various publications and press communications as well as support various departments in their public information efforts. The Communications Specialist position serves a key role in community engagement and transparency. This position reports to the Manager of Communications - Media Relations and you will support those duties and responsibilities and also back-up during weather and other city crises or emergencies.
What are the qualifications for this position? Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field and 1-2 years of directly related experience in communications, marketing or public relations. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. An acceptable general background check to include a state and local criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record will also be required.
