Our Lady of Sorrows Parish located in Farmington with an active and thriving music program is seeking a part-time, highly skilled musician to assist in playing, conducting, and serving as our parish community.
Job Summary:
Support the Director of Music Ministry by making providing necessary materials for choirs and liturgies (choir booklets, weekend/feast day worship aids, preparing binders for instruments and handbell choir, making school mass song slides, making funeral/wedding worship aids); playing/singing at two weekend masses, school events, and other liturgies; and directing Adult Handbell Choir seasonally. Also, the Music Ministry Assistant is solely responsible for all musical duties normally performed by the Director of Music Ministry on her day-offs, sick/personal days, and vacation periods.
Key Responsibilities (14 - 19 hours/week)
Liturgical Music
Play and sing at 2 weekend masses (4:30 PM Vigil, 7:30 AM Sunday)
Play feast day 7:30 a.m. morning masses (All Saints Day, All Souls Day, Immaculate Conception, Ash Wednesday, Assumption)
Report hymn usage to One License (weekly)
Make weekend mass worship aids (Publisher, JPEG upload)
Choir Direction
Direct Adult Handbell Choir (feast days, Advent/Christmas, Easter season)
Maintain instrumental and handbell choir binders
Choir Rehearsal / Cantor Ministry Preparations
Make Choir booklets for Adult Vocal Choir
Make Instrumental binders for three weekends
Make Cantor booklet weekly and upload it in Google Doc at least 2 weeks in advance
Make a recording of the psalm for weekend masses and upload it in Google Doc for cantors two weeks in advance
School Mass
Create song slides for Tuesday School masses (PowerPoint)
Seasonal/Occasional Events
Benediction and Stations of the Cross (Fridays during Lent @6:45-7:30 p.m.)
Plan/lead music for School/Religious Education events (listed below)
Parent Mass (August)
School Prayer services
Living Rosary (October)
Adoration during Confirmation Retreat (November)
2nd Grade Mom's Meeting/Retreat (December)
New Parent Mass (December)
Happy Birthday Jesus (December)
Adoration during Vacation Bible School
Requirements:
Strong musical background (organist/pianist/singer) with at least 2 years of experience; Bachelor of Music/Music Education preferred
Warm, patient personality
Excellent organizational skills
Willingness to help Director as needed
