Position Overview

Graphic Designer - Part Time

Expected Hiring Range: $30.00/hr - $37.21/hr

The Town of Vail Graphic Designer uses design software to create graphics for both print and digital applications, including ads, signs, logos, flyers, mailers, publications, websites, social media and other collateral. The position manages the Town’s asset libraries. The Graphic Designer plays an essential role in maintaining and updating the Town of Vail brand while implementing its application across diverse projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with the Communications Manager to create and implement design pieces in support of Town of Vail messaging across all print and digital outlets.
  2. Formats multi-page reports, plans and other publications.
  3. Maintains and updates the Town of Vail brand standards manual and supports the internal training on and dissemination of those standards.
  4. Leads the effort to migrate existing assets into a comprehensive and accessible cloud-based library.
  5. Supports the Communication Department in gathering and creating content for social media and web.
  6. Aids in preparing for and executing the Communications Department-led events including the Vail Social, Town of Vail 60th Anniversary and the Annual Community Meeting.
  7. Serves the residents and guests of the Town of Vail by abiding by all Town of Vail core values.
  8. Performs job in accordance with all Town of Vail safety practices.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills / Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design software and tools, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  2. Ability to take feedback and create multiple rounds of revisions to designs.
  3. Understanding of printing processes and required design specifications.
  4. Familiarity with production and rendering methods, including drawing, offset printing, photography, interactive media, and more.
  5. Creative thinking skills.
  6. High level organizational skills.
  7. Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements.
  8. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for communication and collaboration.
  9. Ability to multi-task and be self-motivated in completing tasks.

Education, Experience and Certificates

  1. BA or BS with focus on graphic design and/or two or more years of relevant work.
  2. Proven experience using graphic design programs to produce branded print and digital campaigns.
