KRGV TV, the ABC affiliate in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, has an amazing and rare opportunity for a creative, innovative, and enterprising Evening News Anchor.

The right candidate must be an excellent on-camera communicator who helps serve the needs of our audience and community. We are looking for a journalist who excels at presenting the news to a wide audience. KRGV Channel 5 News is the number one rated and largest news operation in South Texas. We are seeking candidates who understand the future of news and tell the stories of our community.

This anchor should be someone who will work with producers to develop smart and engaging newscasts. During interviews, research and be comfortable asking tough but fair questions. We are looking for a newsroom leader who will help guide young journalists to present unique, compelling, and innovative stories of interest.

Our anchors participate in many community events and are the faces of the station. Our preferred candidate is someone who understands and is willing to participate in events which may be on weekends as part of KRGV TV’s commitment to the valley.

This position is Full Time.

Responsibilities:

  • Use editorial judgment to work with producers and help determine content of the newscasts.
  • Work with producer and team to create unique, fast-paced innovative newscasts.
  • Contribute with reviewing scripts and writing stories for newscasts.
  • Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
  • Use social media to find content for newscasts and highlight big social stories.
  • Develop story ideas and create content in various forms for use on-air.
  • Provide assistance to reporters when requested.
  • Perform other tasks as required by news managers.
  • Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
  • Ability to go live from breaking news and important local news events.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years news anchor/reporting experience.
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Journalism and/or Communication degree.
  • Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must.
  • Must provide demo reel link when applying.
