Sports Editor Job at ILLINOIS PRESS ASSOCIATION in Springfield

Springfield craves high school and college sports coverage. Beyond the Ws, Ls, Xs, and Os, our readers love good stories about student athletes and the adults who coach them. Help The State Journal-Register, the Illinois capital city's No. 1 news source, lead its sports staff and connect more readers to its online and print sports sections.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Direct coverage strategies and edit copy.
2. Help reporters tell great stories in formats that resonate on all digital platforms and the newspaper.
3. Coordinate schedules and assignments for full-time and part-time sportswriters.
4. Work closely with the photo staff to get great visuals.
5. Guide and direct trend stories and projects.
6. Cover events during busy seasons, such as high school football and basketball, and write a column as needed.
7. Utilize social media to effectively push our coverage to the audience.
8. Familiarity with digital tools to enhance storytelling.
9. Experience with basic video production and editing is a plus.

Minimum Requirements:

1. At least three years of editing or management experience.
2. At least seven years of experience in journalism.
3. A bachelor's degree is required.
