The State Journal-Register, an award-winning daily in Illinois' capital city, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover the city of Springfield. We need a reporter who can spot trends, hold officials accountable, and translate policy debates into stories about how residents and taxpayers will be affected.
The ideal candidate is someone who can juggle breaking news and more in-depth, watchdog reporting. Candidates should have at least a year of professional newsroom experience; a journalism degree is preferred but not required. Candidates also should possess strong writing and grammar skills, a knowledge of AP Style, and the ability and willingness to use video, social media, and other digital tools.
