The Digitization Lab is located in Bizzell Memorial Library. The lab is focused on high-quality digitization of cultural heritage materials from OU Libraries' History of Science Collections, Western History Collections, Bass Business History Collection, and others.

The Student Specialists in this position work independently in a team- and project-based environment to digitize diverse special collections items and other materials, do post-processing work and metadata entry, and prepare items for online digital collections. Materials encountered will include rare books, manuscript collections, theses, and maps. The department will provide initial training as well as ongoing skill development. Employees will also perform other related duties as assigned.

Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week; hours of operation 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Job Requirements:

Required Education: Must be enrolled in the Spring Term as a student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Spring 2025 class schedule as applicable

Skills:

  • Must communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with Mac OS and Windows.
  • Ability to readily learn and use new technology and software.
  • Ability to perform highly detail-oriented tasks.
  • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision while also collaborating with a team of staff and student employees.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Requires stooping, reaching, lifting; repetitive motions; close visual acuity; and ability to distinguish color variations.

Department Preferences:

  • Interest in learning about and working with digital collections.
  • Some experience with image processing software such as Adobe Lightroom and Acrobat Professional.
  • Experience using spreadsheets e.g. Microsoft Excel.
  • DSLR photography experience.
