FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Major Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, Hunter College School of Education. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility issues in education, advise and work with students to support their success, supervise fieldwork, practicum, and student teachers, and work in professional development schools.

Faculty are required to provide service and participate in the affairs of the department, School of Education, College, and University, including but not limited to program coordination, committee work, and curriculum development, and participate in ongoing program review and accreditation. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in cross-departmental and/or cross-college collaborative projects.

Description of Primary Duties

  1. Teach music and music education courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  2. Manage and administer all aspects of this graduate-level program, including curriculum and assessment.
  3. Serve as the primary advisor to the thirty-plus students enrolled in the program.
  4. Audition and interview all students who formally apply to the program.
  5. Assign students to appropriate public school sites to complete their fieldwork requirement and serve as the field supervisor for some student teachers each semester.
  6. Maintain an updated database of all music education graduates since 2001.
  7. Coordinate a yearly series of guest speakers in the areas of music education and world music.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Doctoral degree in Music Education or related field.
  2. At least three years of Music Education teaching experience in US Public PreK-12 contexts.
  3. Ability to teach graduate-level courses in Music pedagogical methods, curriculum, and student teaching/supervised teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. PreK-12 State Music Teaching Certification.
  2. Experience with collaborative and cross-disciplinary arts education.

Compensation

Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule): $72,922 - $98,309 Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
