MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity (the project) applies best practices and explores innovations to increase equitable immunization coverage in USAID-supported countries. The project is USAID’s flagship technical assistance mechanism for immunization and is active in 12 countries. It builds countries’ capacity to identify and overcome barriers to reaching zero-dose and underimmunized children and older populations with life-saving vaccines and other integrated health services.
The Immunization Technical Director provides strategic technical leadership to the M-RITE project to oversee the design, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of interventions leading to sustainable and equitable immunization coverage. They are a member of the senior management team and provide critical input to the technical vision and direction of the project. The Immunization Technical Director leads and oversees a team of senior and mid-level technical experts to foster innovative and sustainable approaches to advance equity in immunization; support country programs by providing high quality, state of the art inputs appropriate to country contexts; and contribute to global technical strategies and policies. They will build and maintain strong relationships within the global and regional immunization community to ensure the relevance of M-RITE’s work.
The position reports to the Project Director. The preferred location for the position is Arlington, VA, but remote work is open in any U.S. state where JSI is registered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Immunization Technical Lead is responsible for the following:
- Provide overall technical oversight of and encourage innovation and technical excellence in program activities and performance.
- Develop technical approaches that bring together multiple areas of expertise to achieve project results and advance equity in immunization.
- Supervise a team of project staff with expertise in immunization and other relevant areas.
- Design and oversee efforts for continuous updating of technical staff on global immunization policies and strategies.
- Work closely with the Director of Country Programs and country support teams to ensure cohesion between country program technical activities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with global and regional immunization partners.
- Represent M-RITE on relevant global and regional working groups related to immunization.
- Provide technical oversight to global workplan activities and contribute to monitoring progress.
- Represent the project’s technical expertise to USAID by participating in meetings and events.
- Provide technical and strategic guidance on the documentation and dissemination of project results.
- Contribute to project vision, strategies, culture, and management as a member of the Senior Management Team.
COMPETENCIES:
- Extensive expertise in global immunization across multiple lower and middle-income countries (LMICs).
- Experience in the design, implementation, and management of immunization programs.
- Significant experience working within USAID/USG-funded projects.
- Demonstrated leadership, management, and coordination skills.
- Proven senior expertise in developing and implementing effective partnerships.
- Ability to collaborate with experienced qualified colleagues.
- Experience supervising technical staff.
- Ability to manage a team to produce quality products on deadline.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
- Highly effective public speaking and presentation experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: MPH or related Master’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in immunization and public health, including 6 years on global immunization projects funded by USAID/USG. At least 5 years’ experience in senior positions overseeing implementation of the technical agenda for a large project.
Travel: Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
Languages: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Fluency in French is desirable.
