Advertised Salary: $915 per lecture hour/$819 per lab hour

General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for part-time instructors to teach foundation design within an existing structured foundation arts program. Emphasis is placed on teaching design basics including fundamental design elements, principles, and developing an understanding of the successful application of design concepts.

In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Candidates that submit their information may or may not be notified as to the status of their application.

Typical Work Activities

  • Teach courses in the delivery format agreed upon
  • Track attendance as needed
  • Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the semester

Essential Functions

Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare, and present information. Must be able to operate computers and physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Art, Design, or appropriate related field of study
  • An active art/design career as evidenced by professional exhibition record, current work, and/or publications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative working style
  • Must have strong design skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • Evidence of two years of teaching at the college or university level
  • Evidence of community college teaching experience
  • Evidence of work with diverse populations of people in an educational setting
