Advertised Salary: $915 per lecture hour/$819 per lab hour

General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for a part-time Music Instructor for our American Popular Music course. This course is taught in-person in a classroom setting on our Sanborn, NY campus. This music course is a survey of American popular music from its roots to the present day, tracing the acculturation process to the creation of Jazz and Rock n’ Roll to present-day popular music forms. The ability to read music notation is not a necessity. The course is required of music majors and recommended for non-music majors or students without previous music experience.

In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening.

Typical Work Activities

  • Teach course on campus.
  • Track attendance as needed.
  • Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester.
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the semester.

Essential Functions

Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups. Must effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the campus community. Must develop, prepare, and present information. Must operate computers and physically perform the duties of the position while adjusting teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of experience teaching at a high school or college level.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Music or related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel and Word).
  • Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
